The IoT is really growing. It’s contributing to the shift toward patient-centered healthcare. Connected devices can help patients take more ownership and control over their own care, and it can move the needle toward a more proactive model of healthcare. All of this contributes to better patient outcomes, and when people are healthy, they contribute more to society, and in a better position to happily live their lives.
An international team of over 200 astronomers, including scientists from MIT’s Haystack Observatory, has captured the first direct images of a black hole. They accomplished this remarkable feat by coordinating the power of eight major radio observatories on four continents, to work together as a virtual, Earth-sized telescope. In a series of papers published today in a special issue of Astrophysical Journal Letters, the team has revealed four images of the supermassive black hole at the heart of Messier 87, or M87, a galaxy within the Virgo galaxy cluster, 55 million light years from Earth. All four images show a central dark region surrounded by a ring of light that appears lopsided — brighter on one side than the other.

With the explosion of wearable technologies, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, chatbots got impressively wide adoption in 2018. Powered by AI, these intuitive pieces of software are designed specifically to simulate real-life conversations and provide instant customer support. They keep collecting customer data to “learn” more about their behavior patterns, language, as well as their preferences, problems, and expectations. This way, they can humanize their conversations and provide each customer with highly personalized user experiences.
